Surgery

We understand that when your pet needs surgery it is a stressful time and we promise to care for your pet as we would like our own pet to be treated.

We use many monitoring methods including, Pulse oximetry, ECG, blood pressure and respiratory monitoring to help ensure your pet has a smooth and uneventful procedure. All our vet nurses are qualified in anaesthesia.

We offer an extensive range of surgical procedures including:

  • Routine neutering;
  • Dental surgery;
  • Abscess drainage;
  • Wound repair;
  • Orthopaedic repairs;
  • Soft tissue surgeries;
  • Eye and ear surgery;
  • Caesarians;
  • Sedation and grooming (cats only).

Your pet will undergo a thorough physical examination on the day of their procedure and if deemed necessary we will recommend a blood panel to check for any pre-existing conditions which may have not yet been detected. This ensures we can choose the best anaesthetic for your pets needs and provide additional support such as I/V fluid therapy where needed.

Your pet will usually be in recovery by 11am depending on the daily surgical load. You are more than welcome to phone for a progress report, we will then let you know what time your pet will be ready to go home.

If you have any questions or concerns about your pet’s surgery please ask them. We would rather assist you and offer reassurance than have you worrying unnecessarily.

Pain relief is given to all animals that have had a surgical procedure to ensure their comfort post-operatively.

Neutering

Neutering is best performed at 5-6 months of age, young animals recover extremely quickly and will be back to themselves usually as quickly as the next day!

We recommend that all pets which are not going to be used for breeding are neutered to control the already overburdened animal population.

Neutering also has many health advantages for your pet such as:

  • Reduced desire to roam, therefore less likely to be hit by a car or fight with other animals.
  • Eliminates the risk of uterine and testicular cancers, drastically reduces the incidence of mammary cancers and prostate problems.

For dogs it even reduces your registration fee!
